My students are talented young adults who dedicate their time before and after school to our many school ensembles, including Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Marching Band. We participate in two competitions each year; one for our state and one in the Northeast Region. My students are age eleven to fourteen and at a time in their lives when they can be distracted with many things, they focus their skills into music making. We proudly have one of the best music programs in New York City and wish to supply our students with everything they deserve, and more!
My bands are developing bands that are currently struggling with keeping a steady pulse. This BOSS Dr. Beat Metronome has so many features that can assist my students in learning how to play a steady tempo throughout an entire piece of music. One of the features that the students really get a kick out of, is the voice option that has a robotic voice count "One Two Three Four" on each beat of the measure. This metronome also has a port for an auxiliary cable to hook up to a speaker so it can be projected loudly throughout the classroom.

My class isn't able to play the music we have for competition with a student tempo, yet. And the reason I say yet is because I have found a solution. I researched this really cool metronome. A metronome is a device that keeps a pulse for a piece of music. It's used during rehearsal. This metronome, Dr. Beat, has a voice option that counts each beat out loud for the band to follow. This will help us get better at keeping a steady tempo.
I've shown leadership to my classmates and my teacher by trying to find a solution to our problem, an unsteady tempo. I think that my classmates will really like to use this metronome. I also know that they want to fix this problem. All my classmates want to get better as a musician, no one wants to be a bad musician.
Each year we compete in two important music competitions. It's important to ourselves and our school community that we play well. We work hard for many days and hours throughout the year and we want to do our absolute best by making our performances the best they can be. If we cannot keep a steady tempo then we won't be performing at our best.
