Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are at a Title I school where the students come to school excited and love to learn. Majority come from low income families, but that does not impede them from completing their assignments and trying their best. One of their favorite parts of the day is using the technology, like laptops, that they do not have access at home. I love to have the students on my eye level so they can feel that they are important and not belittled. Half of my students are ELLs and as a result, we do a lot of reading in the classroom. I feel that it is important for students to feel loved and safe in the classroom where they know they matter.
My Project
The calendar math program I am requesting already has a place in the classroom. I know exactly where everything will go and this will help my students become more engaged and excited to learn about math. With this being a hands on program with visuals, it will meet my students needs and even help my students that are English Language Learners. It will also help us keep track of how many days we have been in school and emphasize base 10 units and ten frames. Students will be able to have positive and fun ways of learning math and it will give them a chance to learn to love math.
We are currently learning about base 10 numbers and the magnetic base 10 set is perfect for our learning right now.
This will help my students have a more hands on experience with math problems and help them visualize the problem. They will be able to see the problem in real life and use the magnetic set to easily solve the problem.
The privacy partition set will help our students to keep their eyes on their own paper and will help me have more reliable data. It will also help me see where the students actually are in their learning and will give me feedback of what areas they need help for improvement.
