Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning is much more exciting when you are having fun and that is just what I want my students to feel in my classroom. My students need to practice essential skills every day in order to remember and master them. It is a daily practice just like saying today's date.
My students come from a very high poverty neighborhood and a high percentage of them are on free or reduced lunches.
For most of them they do not get the extra support and motivation they need at home. Especially in kindergarten this is the first time they are being exposed to any type of learning. They come to school every day excited to be here and ready to learn. We are working hard to reach our goals and one day go to college!
My Project
My students need a calendar math center and a classroom timer. The calendar math is a center in which my students can practice a variety of essential math skills every day! Being able to read, understand, and talk about a calendar is a basic skill that in kindergarten we love to learn. The jumbo timer will allow the students to develop the understanding of time and will help them to stay focused and begin to learn how to manage their time.
With these tools, the calendar math center and the timer, my students can practice their much needed skills every day.
