Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, funny, and smart. They come from many backgrounds and heritages, but they have one common need - to have someone believe in them and show them math and school can be exciting, fun, and rewarding. I don’t want them to worry about what they need to have an equal shot at success. We need durable, up-to-date calculators. We’ve been using a mix of leftover calculators that are old, don’t function correctly, etc. we don’t anything to slow down the progress we are making in their math scores!
My Project
I am a teacher today because I LOVED school. It was fun for me to see the results of my studying, thinking, and hard work. My students have more
challenges than I did.
They have language barriers, economic barriers, and sometimes feel like giving up. I am a high-energy teacher who acts like their math coach. I want them to believe they can win at math and in life. I’m teaching them with a mix of new math and old-school techniques that worked for me. Calculators are used in most testing now, and students need to be confident that they work and know how to use them. I promise that we will use the calculators to verify that we are strong in math skills and ready for any test!
