My Students

Our high school has a wonderfully diverse population with many middle class students studying and socializing together with our first generation college-going/low income students. The common thread however is that whatever their backgrounds, our students are typically highly motivated and instilled with an aspiration to improve their lives.

Unfortunately, many of our first generation college-going/ low income students lack the financial resources necessary to optimize their standardized test scores required for competitive college admission.

This puts them at a significant disadvantage of more affluent students.

My Project

Most students applying to competitive four year colleges must take either the SAT or AP exam. This score is often determinant as to whether or not they get into their dream college. The SAT allows the use of graphing calculators on one part of their math exam. Unfortunately many of our low income students can't afford these calculators which puts them at a significant disadvantage.

This project will allow us to purchase 10 of these calculators to loan out to these low income students when they take their SAT exams.

This will help them improve their SAT scores and increase their chances of attending their dream college.
