My Students
I work in a school that has a high poverty level and a high level of English Learners. Although they come to school lacking many experiences, they are eager to learn. Many use technology to have fun but most do not use it to learn.
Math stations are must to keep my students engaged, and with technology to support the learning, my students would be more engaged than ever!
This is because it will balance the fast-paced life they live with the love of learning that I am trying to instill in class. Students will have tools necessary to check work and explore patterns while I work with students in a small group.
My Project
Many students think that calculators are cheating tools. I want this project to teach students that calculators are important tools to support learning, not hurt it.
A classroom set of calculators would allow students to explore math through patterns while utilizing the calculators as a tool!
This is important - because in many jobs calculators will support the work, so the younger students use calculators as tools - not for cheating, the more successful they will be later in life. They can use the calculator to check work when people can't help them and then revise answers if needed. This will help students to gain confidence in the math classroom!
