My students are faced with many challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Despite their hardships, they come to school ready to learn.
Because of the low economic backgrounds my students come from, a calculator is a luxury many of them cannot afford.
My students deserve to have access to the needed resources to make them successful in the classroom. Many of my students need to build confidence before being given independent work. A calculator helps do that. I want to give them every opportunity to learn and grow. The experiences they have in their lives are very limited. As educators, we want to help our students to achieve the most they can. By providing them with the necessary tools, we can help them do their best!
My Project
Having a calculator aids my students in exploring the concept being presented with a tool. It also helps their math anxiety by giving them something they can use to solve their problems. It is very difficult to get a class set funded so we are trying one at a time.
Students will learn how to use a graphing calculator to learn how to graph functions and solve systems of equations.
In every topic in the Algebra 1 class, there is a set of problems that requires the use of a graphing calculator. To take an Algebra 1 course without a calculator is just like riding a bicycle with flat tires. The set of calculators would be shared among students in each class period. Students need to have access to a graphing calculator and be able to use it efficiently.
