Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The biggest challenge facing my students is the lack of funds to purchase the supplies that they need and our school does not have the money to purchase everything that is needed in the classroom. We are located in Lodi, California and our high school is one of four comprehensive high schools in the district serving grades 9-12. The nearly 2,100 students at our High School come from a wide range of socio-economic, educational, linguistic and cultural backgrounds. I love teaching students with various backgrounds because I get to learn from them as much as they learn from me and I would like to help provide my students with the necessary supplies so that they are able to complete their assignments.
My Project
These calculators are greatly needed. The class set that I have are gradually dying and I would like to replace them. Many of my students are unable to purchase their own calculator so a class set is necessary. We use the calculators on a daily basis for nearly every assignment. Right now students are sharing calculators, which is fine for the daily assignments. When it is time for a test, it is a more difficult for them to share.
