My students need Texas Instruments scientific calculators for their Life Skills Math class. This will allow them to get so much more done and work on targeted skills to reach their goals.
I am a special education teacher with the high school. I teach essential skills math class for students who have moderate to severe disabilities and an Interpersonal Relationships class for students with mild to moderate disabilities. These amazing kids work so hard at school and at times it's harder for them than their same aged peers. We practice a ton of skills together and I get to meet so many amazing personalities.
My hard working students do their best to succeed and I'm doing my best to give them the proper resources.
We live in a great, supportive district that helps my students succeed. I'm very fortunate to be here, and hope to continue to give my students the best of my ability!
My Project
My students are currently working with simple, cheap, 4 function calculators in order to get their math work done. Our school, while fantastic and supportive, cannot give me a set of calculators for my classroom alone. I need to have them available to the students for our class and testing.
Have you ever tried to do a 5 step budgeting problem on a single line calculator?
It's awful. The students can enter just one number wrong and have to start all over! That frustration is rough on them and makes math that much harder. I don't think it needs to be that difficult if we have the right tools for the job!
