My students came to my school when it opened last year because they needed something different. My district that has three traditional high schools that provide excellent educational experiences for each of their student populations, at roughly 1500 each. However, we noticed their boisterous and busy cultures weren't always the right fit for everyone.
For the students who just a needed a smaller community to navigate, feel known, and have support, our school was the answer.
Our students are so thankful for our small school community where they are each known by name by every teacher and other student, and parents have told us we are already making such an improvement in their children's lives, but we are just getting started and still need some help as we begin our second year.
My Project
Without the support and funding of larger and more establish schools, it has been hard to acquire all the basic needs necessary to providing the quality education our students deserve, especially when it comes to technology. This year students will need the use of graphing calculators to engage in a relevant to real life Statistics course and for use on their ACT exam for college application.
We currently have no school-provided graphing calculators to offer my math students for use in class, and they critically need these devices to succeed on their coursework and college preparation tests.
The calculators will make a huge impact on their learning and the learning of many future classes to come.
