This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students often ask me, "when am I ever going to use science in my life?" I tell them it is not just the content that is important, but it is the way science requires you to approach problems that is truly valuable.

My students want tangible learning experiences that have real-world applications.

Students at my school have limited resources to engage in truly immersive learning in the science concepts that interest them. This is compounded by the fact that oftentimes, even the essential supplies needed are not available.

My Project

We need calculators. The TI-30x calculators offer an array of functions that students will use throughout the year. The basic calculators we currently have lack the functionality required in a chemistry classroom.

We currently have 8 basic calculators to serve a classroom of 26.

Sharing calculators, and waiting until everyone has tried to solve a problem, can really slow down the flow during a class period.

It is time for a serious update to ensure students are up to speed with their math ability, as well as current with what most students use in a chemistry, or science classroom in general.
