Calculators for Kids
My students need 20 scientific calculators.
I teach economically disadvantaged students with learning deficiencies the joy of physical science.
Many of my students are not financially able to provide their own scientific calculator, which is a class necessity for physical science. As a result, the students have trouble completing the assignments within the class time limits, thus having an adverse affect on their performance.
Recently a student was attempting to complete an assignment and was struggling with the math. I had given out all of my personal calculators and did not have one for her to complete her assignment. She was attempting to do all of the problems long hand. I asked her why she didn't have a calculator and she said that her mother was unemployed and they couldn't afford one.
This happens more times than realized. Many times the student is ashamed to ask for the needed supplies. However, if there is an available class set, the stigma would be removed and students could successfully complete their work in a timely fashion.
With the provision of these 20 calculators, there will be a classroom set that the students could use anytime they needed.
Your donation will ensure that my students have the same opportunity as their peers even though they do not come from the same circumstances.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
