My students need Scientific Calculator s, Pencils, pencil holders (to keep area clean), sharpener and material organizers to level the "academic playing field
My school is a diverse community that believes that our students can be successful. Many of our students come from low income families and some of them experience "adult" problems, so being in school is a safe haven.
My scholars are desperately working to obtain a passing Algebra 1 End of Course Assessment score.
As a whole, our school is committed to serving a community from different backgrounds, our school reflects true cultural diversity and welcomes a heterogeneous population of learners and teachers. As an inner city school we are confronted with images of poverty, homelessness, racism and conflict. Nonetheless, students arrive with the determination and motivation to learn!
My Project
Currently, scholars arrive knowing class will progress slower than the norm as a result of the lack of calculators.
With the use of these calculators, class speed and scholar focus will increase resulting in obtaining more knowledge in less time!
My scholars will utilize all of the benefits and perks of doing their math with not just a basic calculator, but a calculator which enables them to further their mathematical studies without being stumped as a result of their cell phone calculator being incapable of performing such problems.
The resources we are asking for are essential to our scholars success. The need for a scientific calculator, pencils, pencil sharpener, a mesh organizer and a wire organizer will assist the scholars in having the necessary materials to not only improve their Algebra abilities, but to keep their work areas set up for success by keeping it neat and organized with the proper writing devices, sharpening devices, organizational bins and pencil holders.
Each and every scholar who will be utilizing these calculators are studiously working towards passing the Algebra 1 End of Course Exam, to achieve not only their family's dream, but their dream of graduating high school.
