This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at my school site are homeschooled primarily by their parents. I teach both 7th and 8th grade mathematics and students come in twice a week for my math class. Often the parents sit in with them so that they can improve their ability to support the student at home. The curriculum is pretty intense and I work hard at providing real life experiences and applications to make it more concrete and less abstract. CVHS is located in Kingsburg but many of our families come from neighboring towns such as Fresno, Clovis, Selma, and Visalia.

My Project

As students advance in mathematics the content, concepts, and calculations increase in difficulty. Providing students with proper tools such as these TI scientific calculators and teaching them how to use them will help them throughout their academic careers.

Students in middle school often could benefit from a calculator beyond the standard one.

Many parents don't even think about the need for a scientific model until high school. Providing these calculators will ensure that all students at CVHS in 7th and 8th grade math have access to quality tools so that they may continue to learn, solve, and be challenged by the concepts in their mathematics classes.
