My students need a class set of calculators to help with the Common Core standards. We need calculators that can be used with the new statistics standards in High School.

My Students

I integrate a lot of technology into the class, between Twitter and students doing their own math blogs.

We have a large school of about 1,900 students.

Our students are very diverse. We have a wide range of needs for math supplies. We have been integrating technology into the classroom and last year our school hit an 801 API. We want to sustain and even improve on this school.

My Project

The Common Core Standards address some statistics at the 9th, 10th and 11th grade level. I teach a Statistics class for seniors, and I know how much the calculations can bog down the concepts being taught. However, the seniors are more likely to have the support at home to be able to get a calculator. Bringing stats into the lower grades means we will need more calculators to enable students to use them in class.

This project will help the students are lower grade levels learn statistics and hopefully continue to raise the level of math that is accessible to all students and not just those with calculators of their own.
