My fifth grade students need 25 new calculators because the ones we are using are ancient and do not add up correctly.

I am the 5th grade teacher in a small school district in Michigan. We have about 300 students in our K-12 school. Two years ago, we discovered our school has a 1 million dollar debt and we have been forced to make cuts. The teachers have had to make due with what they had.

We use calculators daily to correct problems, calculate grades, and check answers. I believe the same calculators that my students are using are the same ones that I used when I was in 5th grade (21 years ago). Most of them have broken keys or don't "add" up correctly.

My classroom needs 25 new calculators to replace the "ancient" ones we have now. Not only will it help my students, it will save us from the frustration of trying to make the old ones work correctly.
