My Students

I work with a great group of students who love to learn, especially when learning is made fun. However, because of the nature of the math classes I teach, many of my students have a history of not feeling successful in math.

A large percentage of the students in my school qualify for free/reduced-price lunch.

Many of my students fall into that category. They often come to school unprepared, and they usually have sad stories as to why they don't have a pencil or a ruler. Even though it is not always easy, my students want to succeed, and it is my mission to help them do so.

My Project

Students can use graphing calculators sometimes, but there are other times when they are not appropriate. Students often lost their "Number Sense" when given too many functions on a calculator. A scientific calculator will help students learn to do needed arithmetic operations without the ability to graph a function on the calculator. Learning to use the function for input and output values has much more value than looking at a table on a graphing calculator. These calculators will help students better understand what input and output values are and how to calculate given each. It is important for students to have this experience.
