The students I serve are in the Learning Center. It's an environment created for credit recovery. Every student I see has either failed a course required for graduation or is taking a course to improve the grade they received to enhance the GPA on their transcript. Most of the students in my room take advantage of their second chance and earn credits toward graduation that normally would be out of reach.
I have some amazing students who strive to succeed not only in the classroom but to be leaders of their communities as well.
They are highly active in the school extracurriculars and in the community. Many of my students help support their own families by working jobs and helping out at home. Many of my students are bright, hard workers, they just have struggled in a traditional classroom setting.
My Project
Students are recovering failed credits to stay on track towards graduation. These students have already failed the course they are enrolled in once or have done more poorly than desired. Giving them quality calculators that will keep them off of their phones which will enhance their productivity.
I want to give my students every opportunity to be successful and if providing them with a good calculator removes an obstacle for them achieving success, that's too easy not to do.
The calculators on their phones and computers are not intuitive at all and cause more frustration. I want to remove that barrier and give them tools that they can use easily.
