My students are students with special needs; however, they are just like everyone else. When we try to get supplies from the library we usually get the old, outdated materials. Lately, they have gotten materials that have not been fixed or are not going to be fixed. My students use technology to assist them in their assignments, lessons, instruction and they feel accomplished!
My students are 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th-grade students.
We have a hard time grasping some basic information, but when we finally grasp it, it brightens everyone's day. My students have to do a lot of extra things in order to receive a high school diploma. In addition to their core courses, they also have to take occupational courses. They are responsible for having to learn job skills in school and off campus. They have accumulated a number of community-based hours of employment before graduation. My students love to help each other out, and they like to feel successful. When someone in the classroom grasps a concept, it is like a huge celebration. Technology has helped my students grow and learn functional skills that would be difficult to achieve otherwise.
My Project
For this project we are trying to acquire 4 more graphing calculators. Our numbers have increased in our classroom and we have more students. We use the calculators in our Introductory to Math class, Locally Developed Math, Math 1 and Financial Management.
Our students are taught how to use the TI84 calculators to solve real world problems.
Our program uses North Carolina Virtual Schools to demonstrate the problems and the calculators that are used in the video are TI84. With using identical calculators helps the students to practice the problems exactly as they are taught so they can be more successful on the End of the Year Exams (EOC's)!
