My students need c Ti-34 calculators for classroom instruction and for helping prepare them for the Common Core State Math exams.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students have emotional behavioral disorders and are learning disabled. Some of the students I teach are in foster care and others are living in homeless shelters. They cannot afford to purchase their own calculators. Many of my students also have anxiety attacks and have trouble staying focused on their work when presented on a white board. They are active learners! Providing them with a Toshiba laptop will give my students the materials they need to stay active in class and succeed.
These calculators will help the students in completing in a variety of mathematical tasks including multiplying complex fractions and simplifying them. The calculators will also be used to solve algebraic equations. My students will be able to work independently in solving each problem. These calculators will also show each student the step by step process used in calculating each operation. In addition to providing the students with the necessary tools needed to complete each math problem these calculators will help my students prepare themselves for the Common Core Math exams.
With the current passing rate on these exams being at approximately 40 percent these calculators will help my students raise that rate.
Any donation you make will go a long way in preparing my students for these exams and in doing so giving them a better opportunity to apply to a college.
