Calculating personal finances correctly for my 12th grade economic class

I would like to have a classroom set of good quality, basic function calculators for students to use in economics. Our state recently added several components of personal finance to our social studies requirements. We spend time in class learning how to balance check books, calculate simple and compound interest, complete tax returns, finance houses and cars, and many other smaller tasks that require the use of a calculator. Some of my students can provide their own, but many cannot. There are also times when some students have dead batteries and the "I forgot!" group is always present! These students get behind when they must use paper and pencil to solve class problems. A classroom set of calculators would ensure that nobody gets left behind on an assignment and also will help them practice their math skills. On average, we use calculators 3 out of 5 days per week. About half of the students I teach every year have difficulty providing a calculator on a regular basis. My high school has a student body of approximately 1500 students who live in a rural area. Many of these students will not go on to college, but begin working in the 'real world' after high school graduation. They need good economic literacy skills in order to function as a responsible member of society. I feel it is essential to practice those skills instead of just discussing how something is done.
