Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
You want me to calculate the number of moles in a block of aluminum; this is going to take some serious calculating! I am a high school science teacher at a a low-income school, with high diversity and many English-Language Learners. Over half of our students are on free and reduced lunches. One subject I teach is Chemistry. My Chemistry students range from 10-12 graders.
In this class, I ask students to have calculators handy for whatever the daily lesson plan may throw at them. However, many students can not afford calculators. I have a few of my own that I leave out for students to use, but there is not always enough to go around.
I am asking for 20 TI 30Xa calculators to keep in my classroom. Having these calculators in my classroom would allow all my students to have access to calculators. Students would be able to use these calculators in class for daily work, quizzes, tests, and labs. Also, because these would be available in my room, students could come in before school, during study hall, or after school to use the calculators for their homework. Additionally, as many students take this course as a part of their college preparations, the availability of calculators will help them to excel in this course and continue on their path to college.
Your kind donations will help ensure that all my students have a resource to help them learn and do well in this course. So, the next time my students are faced with the challenging feat of calculating the number of moles in a block of aluminum, they will be able to do so with confidence.
