Balancing a checkbook, determining the value of a stock portfolio, analyzing price index changes, determining pay checks....are these critical skills that our kids need today in order to be successful in life? As a high school economics teacher, I believe they are very important! I include these skills and many other topics in the curriculum for both my regular and Advanced Placement students. High school economics classes cover a variety of practical topics including personal finance issues. Students need to be equipped with an understanding of how to manage their financial future. In order to teach these concepts, simple calculators are needed for each student in the class. Funding the cost of a classroom set of calculators (30) would make activities more relevant and much easier to understand. Please help us provide the tools for active, hands-on learning activities which will help our kids calculate their future.
