Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has students with great ambitions. They want to know more about the world and about how their learning applies to the real world. They actively seek knowledge that is relevant to their daily lives.
Our school is a located in a low-income area where over 95% of students are on free or reduced lunch.
The school is very large, with a dedicated staff that consistently overcomes the socioeconomic stress that many of the students face within their daily lives. The school has linkages with the neighborhood more largely to provide an educated populace for the community.
My Project
My students need calculators and other materials, such as pencils, dry erase markers, and gel pens, to be fully prepared for our ongoing units in 2018. The materials requested will help them with regular assignments, our upcoming projects, and the tests that they are expected to master.
Within my physics and chemistry classes, almost 80-90% of the problems that the students work to solve include calculations.
My students are getting difficult concepts like mole conversions and Coulomb's Law, but they are having to wait for their neighbor to complete the calculations due to limited calculator availability.
