My Students

My school is the home of amazing kids. Their backgrounds are so diverse and rich I can't put it into words. They come to school with very different needs. I teach children with big dreams. As different as they all are they downstate something in common...middle schoolers are squirrelly. They need variety to best capture their learning potential. Our classroom goal is to bring science to life. We want engaging and hands-on experiences. Students will tell you that they learn best when they do and we want to give them more opportunities to dig in to science.

My Project

We need a new set of calculators for our science class. We don't have enough for students to use individually, they must share. Students use the calculators on their phones if they have one but our state standards will not allow students to use their devices during assessments.

It is a requirement that students have access to a calculator with four-function, scientific, or

graphing capability for 8th grade science. I am asking for a class set of 30 calculators. These are basic four-function calculators but will help with all assessments for the next few years. My students are great and have been sharing but they really need their own approved resources to best succeed in science.
