Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Physics is how the world works around us, so my students get active in their community and DO physics on a daily basis. Project based learning is the core of my teaching style and students are constantly challenged with building and creating models using their physics knowledge.
The students in my class are curious and creative.
Our schools focus is a Design focus so my students love creating and building projects in class. Students very often complete projects for more than one class and connect many interdisciplinary subjects together in one big assignment. My students come from a varied background and many commute in from some of the low socioeconomic neighborhoods in the area. Our diverse population allows us to access many different communities in the area and get students to actively make their community a better place.
My Project
Students using these materials are enrolled in an introductory cake decorating class. Students are using their design skills so learn specifically how to design using the cake and frosting as a medium. Our school is a design based school so students get the opportunity to learn about design in many different industries.
My students need high quality decorating materials to help improve their skills.
Some of the resources include piping tips, cake turntables, fondant and baking dishes. All of these materials are essential for understanding how to decorate cakes. Students will use these to build on their design skills and get really good experience in practicing making and designing of cakes.
