About My Students

Brian, Isaac, London, Jacob, Michael, Kristian and Zarian are some of the students who will be implementing a school cafe, Cafe 18, as a learning tool for their entrepreneurship and accounting class. Cafe 18 will give the scholars at YMLA real world experiences in the classroom. Cafe 18 will also be used to cultivate the entrepreneurial, economical, and leadership mindset of our young men to prepare them for the future in building prosperity and career readiness. Preparing them for Greatness!

The mission of Cafe 18 and our business department is to cultivate the entrepreneurial, economical, and leadership mindset of our young men to prepare them for the future in building prosperity and career readiness

In Entrepreneurship, students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to become an entrepreneur. Students will learn the principles necessary to begin and operate a business. The primary focus of the course is to help students understand the process of analyzing a business opportunity, preparing a business plan, determining feasibility of an idea using research, and developing a plan to organize and promote the business and its products and services. In addition, students will understand the capital required, the return on investment desired, and the potential for profit.

In Their Own Words

The goal of this project is to get real life experiences that would prepare us for our future. Being directly involved with Cafe 18 would teach us the necessities of how to sustain a business in the current market. Learning how to communicate with customers and suppliers would give us an edge on growing our business and brand.

With the leadership role involved in this project we will make the most of the accountability factors. We must all be accountable for the success of our store and our learning while being responsible for the thing we have to do. Effectively working as a team to accomplish the defined goals. All while also gaining interpersonal, critical-thinking, listening and collaboration skills.

This project is important to us because we get real world experiences and not just textbook learning. Data has proven that hands on learning is more beneficial and will stick with students longer. Being able to apply what we have learned in our class to the store, Cafe 18, will give us a different insight into our learning process.
