Our school is located in an extremely rural area of south Mississippi. We are surrounded by larger school districts with ten of the largest, wealthiest, and highest-performing in the state located no less than 120 miles from us. Our students are viewed as "thugs, drug dealers, and or rednecks" and treated the exact same way. Because of this, our students are often overlooked by the state, region, and community for funding.
Our school's limited funding means limited resources
Our school district is a Title 1, low-income district high in welfare, drug usage, and alcoholism. Our school has only three SMART boards in the school, and those are found in the math classrooms. We have limited technology which means our kids have limited access to the outside world beyond their phones and social media.
My Project
My students can interact with geography instead of simply watching a video about places and subjects. They can become part of the world by clicking onto places! All my students know each other and I want to foster a nurturing and friendly learning environment. Hands on learning classroom is the best type of class for children. The government classes would be able to interact with learning activities and scenarios about the real world. Entrepreneurship class could simulate life situations and practice interactive scenarios such as interviews. Ms Studies could visit places without leaving the classroom. They could make history not just read history!
