BYOB -Bring Your Own Batteries

My students need AAA batteries to operate my class set of graphing calculators in Algebra 2, Math Analysis and AP Calculus.

My Students

Let's not let technology go to waste! The math department currently has 11 classroom sets of graphing calculators. However, we go through on average 8 batteries per calculator per year. That's 2,640 batteries a year! Please help us keep these tools running! (11x8x30= 2640)

We have a student population where 89% of the kids pursue higher education however they do it with limited means.

Over 45% of our students are on free and reduced lunches. Therefor, many of them can't afford their own graphing calculators. We have supplied those for them through grants but they won't run without batteries.

My Project

Students are more engaged when they use technology. Our state's end of course test requires graphing calculators and so does the Advanced Placement Calculus test. We need to use these tools daily so kids are comfortable with them and are familiar with the features. Batteries are needed to get them running and into student's hands.

Calculators help students visualize problems and compare graphs, tables and equations.

This is a tool that helps kids see the big picture and make connections. Graphing calculators help students excel in upper lever mathematics courses as well as on ACT, SAT and AP exams. These are one more way we can prepare students to be a success in college.
