I teach in a Multiple Disability Classroom for 3rd-5th grade in an urban setting. All of my students receive special education services for multiple disabilities, and each of them has educational needs that I am striving to meet. My students enjoy hands-on and engaging activities, and they like consistency in the classroom.
In my classroom, my students are seen for their abilities and not their disability.
My school is a Title I school in our state, and more than half of the students in my school receive free lunch. My school also sends food home with some of our students on the weekends to help the families with food costs.
My Project
The majority of my students are in wheelchairs, and they enjoy getting out of their wheelchair as much as they can. I have one bean bag in my classroom, and it is the favorite item in my classroom. These bean bags provide enough support for my students in wheelchairs, and it allows them to get out of their wheelchair and use this as another option. My students love getting out of their wheelchairs as much as possible, and by having more bean bag chairs, my students will be able to sit in these for a variety of activities such as centers, whole group, and independent reading.
All students need flexible seating options, including students in wheelchairs.
