Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At my school, "Every Student Counts and Every Moment Matters!"
Our students come to school each and every day ready to take on the world and to learn, challenging themselves to be better than they were the day before!
As an educator entering my 15th year of service, with experience as both a teacher and administrator, I consider it one of my life's greatest blessings to be able to work alongside the best student scholars and educators in the country! MES, my home for the last two years, is committed to providing its students with all of the resources that are needed to engage students in rigorous, dynamic and inspirational instructional activities. There may be times when we do not have what we need, but we have taken on the "We can't yet..." not a "We can't..." attitude. Maybe we currently cannot provide our students with all of the most innovative technology available, maybe we currently do not have a 1,000+ book classroom library of high-interest books in every classroom, but soon we will! All of the resources we want to provide to our students are available to us through the magic of DonorsChoose.org thanks to donors like YOU!
My Project
Do effective teachers sit at their desks throughout class? I would argue they don’t.
Teachers that are closer to the learning environment make a bigger impact on student achievement than those teachers who routinely assign work to the students and then sit behind their desks.
With a flexible seating environment, having as much space as you can for students to work is critical! Too often teacher desks are the largest piece of furniture in the classroom and create a kind of barrier between a teacher and his or her students. I want to break down that barrier and create a space where both my students and I can lead the classroom during instruction!
With this standing desk, my students will be just as comfortable as I will be behind it, next to it or in front of it instructing their peers on innovative math strategies, sharing their writing on the document camera, or conducting presentations in all content areas. Added bonus...this desk has storage space that can be used as a mini classroom library! I cannot wait to highlight my favorite books in the cubbies this desk provides to pique my students' interest on new authors or new books!
We cannot wait to add this piece of furniture to our coffee-shop style classroom this year with YOUR help!
