This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 22 amazing first graders.
These 6 and 7-year-olds come to school every day with smiles on their faces ready to learn.
My students have a strong love for each other and our classroom. They like reading and curling up with a good book in my library.
They love morning meeting on our classroom rug, where we check in with one another and share our feelings. Our rug has become the center of our learning and desperately needs to be replaced.
My Project
When I began teaching in my classroom 9 years ago, I inherited a used classroom carpet. It wasn't in the newest condition, but as a new teacher, I had to focus on gathering supplies for my students and couldn't worry about a carpet. In those 9 years, our carpet has seen everything you could imagine in a first-grade classroom, including some bathroom accidents. This carpet gets shampooed every summer by our loving custodians, but there is only so much you can do after a certain point. The carpet has an order an array of stains that cannot be moved. There is simply no room for a replacement in the school budget. Please help give us a clean place to learn.
