My students are a bright and brilliant group of young people who are in the process of learning to truly grow through their education and community. My group of students this year are such a unique group of individuals that have been celebrating each others' differences. I am extremely proud of the community that they are building and have seen them grow tremendously.
The school is located in a lower income area in the Silicon Valley.
Most of the students at the school receive free and reduced-price lunch. It is a Title I school in East San Jose, California with a high population of English Learners. Although we are lacking many resources, the fighting spirit found within the teachers and students push us further towards our goals.
My Project
Accidents happen all of the time. They may happen more often at schools than other places. Students running around and playing while not having full grasps on their fine motor skills is a recipe for minor to major disaster. Working with students means not only being a teacher, but wearing a nurses hat as well, especially at our school.
Our school does not have a nurse on campus, so the teachers and office staff make sure to take care of the health of our students to whatever extent we can.
The most often care that the students look for is ice for their aches. With a lack of a freezer in the classroom, a few ice trays in the office, and very busy secretaries the amount of ice that can be found on campus for aches is miniscule. An ice maker will help to solve this problem. The small bags will also be used for their "booboo" healing. Band Aids and Neosporin will be used on cuts and scrapes.
Fifth grade is also a time for young girls to start physically maturing and another type of accident may occur. The feminine hygiene products will be used for those young ladies who are going through those times and need these products to be clean and sanitary. I want to make sure to keep our students clean and healthy through this project. Thank you for considering funding this project!
