Our school is in a Title I district. All of our students automatically qualify for free or reduced price lunch due to the economic status of our community. Many of our parents are employed as field workers, where paychecks can be small or sporadic especially in winter when there is not much work. More than half of my class speaks English as their second language, and some have special needs. With that being said, they all love to come to school and want to learn. They deserve all the resources we can give to help them to be successful in school.
My students will benefit from a Brother Scan and Cut because I will be able to quickly and efficiently create classroom materials like different types of insects and their habitats. Having this machine available for my students will make a huge difference in our classroom environment and our learning. My students will be able to explore and learn about the wide variety of insects that live in the world today.
We are not allowed to have live animals in the classroom so having pictures that are cut out and their habitats that the students can move around will help support their learning.
I hope to change one of my classroom walls into a world that the students can learn about insects and their environment that they live in. Using this newer technology will give us the ability to make learning individualized for each student!
My students often complete a class research project each spring on a topic of their own choosing. Having books on a variety of insects, such as ants, butterflies, and fireflies, would give my students more resources for their projects and to read for fun. As a group, we will be able to read and share information about insects together. Individually, students will write and draw about the insect and the environment they live in. My students will share at open house their new knowledge about insect to their parents.
This project will help my students better understand the world around them and will give them a greater appreciation for small creatures in nature. Thank you.
