Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I am the proud teacher of nineteen wonderful children, many of whom come from low-income families.
Many of my students live in the Marcy Projects, and rarely get the opportunity to travel far from them.
Throughout the year I have been getting to know these fabulous young children. They come to school wearing baseball caps and t-shirts, yet have never been to a sporting event, and many of them will never have the opportunity to attend one.
It would mean so much to them to see The New York Mets as an end of year gift for all of their hard work and dedication. Going to the game would inspire them to work even harder in the future, as well as give them the opportunity to escape the projects for an afternoon with their parents and friends.
Attending the game would not only be a reward. It would expose them to teamwork and give them a chance to explore another borough. Many of the students are unaware of a world outside of Brooklyn. Taking the train to Queens would expose them to an unknown world.
Please send my class to see The New York Mets and buy them some snacks and sodas at the game. You would be making nineteen children happier than they ever imagined.
