My Students

My students are funny and smart, and they try so hard to learn and please their teacher. My class is diverse, and there are many students whose first language is not English. Having hands-on tools available to them is crucial to the success of their learning. They love exploring and being creative in their learning. Some of their favorite things to do are STEM activities and, of course, art. I have some of the most creative first graders!

Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most important weapon which you can use to change the world." I hope that through the education my students receive, this is something they will take away at the end of the year.

My students especially love it when I bring out the hands-on learning tools available in our classroom. It is so fun to watch their minds grow and expand as they are manipulating objects that help to solidify the difficult concepts taught in first grade. In addition to teaching my students' core content, I am trying to teach them that education is powerful, that it will get them anywhere they want to go, and that it will help them to change the world.

My Project

This year, I started using brag tags as a way to promote positive behavior and to help students celebrate successes they have. It was such a hit, the students have loved collecting pins and sharing them with their families. My hope is to get a button maker that will make buttons that are just a bit bigger so we can have a variety of sizes to use for our brag tags. This new button maker will also be used to make birthday badges for each student. I love being able to recognize my students and their accomplishments, big or small.
