My Students

Do you remember how much fun it was exploring in science when you were a kid? Imagine inner city 2nd graders getting that experience hands on for the first time while investigating the life cycle of a butterfly.

I currently teacher 2nd grade in the City of Philadelphia.

All students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch. This year in the district resources are lower than ever. It is hard as a teacher to not only to keep up with the demands in the classroom but to be able to provide innovation experiences for my students to learn with the use of outside resources.

My Project

The butterfly kit, inflatable kit, and DVD will allow my students to learn the life cycle of the butterfly. This will be not only a "hands on" but a "minds on" activity for them. This will allow them to go through the stages of the butterfly and eventually release their butterflies into nature.

Donations to this project will improve my classroom because it will add to its' sense of community and team building.

It will change the students' lives for better by allow them to experience hands on rather than just seeing the life cycle of a butterfly in a textbook or poster.
