My Students

Our students come from eight small rural towns in western Maine. We value hard work, educational experiences, the arts and community pride.

Specifically our students are inquisitive, hands-on visual learners who perform best through experiences that they can then use to build a positive community culture in their classroom while incorporating the visual arts to demonstrate their learning.

Many are struggling readers and over half of our student population and their families are experiencing the effects of isolation and rural poverty.

My Project

At our school, we work each year with (5) 5th grade and (2) 8th grade classes and their students to study Biomes, EcoSystems and the importance of pollinators in the natural community.

We are seeking to develop Butterfly & Pollinator artists among our students through the use of iPad and Apple Pencils in our perennial pollinator garden.

My participating students will render their own butterfly and pollinator drawings (in-color and on the iPad) and then have their artistic drawing be printed and displayed as part of their yearly learning project about eco-systems, biomes and the importance of pollinators.
