Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Education teacher who loves to make sure my kids are always prepared for their day. My students love to learn and always try their best to stay focused during the day. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as typical. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and strive to give them the best of me.
My Project
My students were very excited to read and learn about Earth Day. We have decided to continue our studies and learn about the importance of Butterflies in our gardens. We would like to read stories about butterflies and also observe the life cycle of butterflies with our own butterfly kit. Earth day is a great day to remind us of how we should be acting each and every day to help save our earth. Gardens and planting are beautiful. Did you know that butterflies and bees help us continue the beauty by spreading the pollen for our flowers?
My first grade students have also made a pact together to use fewer water bottles and use their own thermos for school.
We would like to get thermos so that they will be able to follow through with their pact. So, I have included a few decorate your own thermos to help us. I know they will love that they can customize their thermos.
We are also asking for tweezers to help us in our math center by counting our plastic little butterflies. These will not only help us to count but also help us increase our fine motor skills.
