Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students served by this project are in Extended Transitional Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten as well as traditional Kindergarten and first grade. All of these students will have access to these materials through our new language experience and content oriented playroom.
Many parents that live in my school's neighborhood can not afford preschool.
My school is a Title I school in a low-income area of the city of Los Angeles. All the students who attend this school receive free breakfast and lunch. About 48% of the school population are English language learners. Our school is a Gold Ribbon School and is very interested in developmentally appropriate practices for our youngest students. Our kindergarten and first grade teachers work very closely to implement high standards to ensure our students receive the foundational learning they need to be successful in life and reach their academic goals. Thank you so much for your consideration of my project.
My Project
These live insects, ladybug robots and related science and math materials will engage our students in science content through play. Play is the highest form of research and language experience is the best way to get promote language development and expand children's vocabularies.
All of our primary students will benefit from a hands-on STEAM experience with insects.
Our new content focus playroom will provide students with opportunities to observe insects, talk about insects, write about insects, count insects, read about insects and play with insect robots. Learning should be fun and engaging while maintaining high standards for concept development. I am so excited about this project, aren't you?
