Butterflies and Ladybugs, Oh My!
My students need live painted lady butterfly larva, a life cycle poster and lady bugs.
I am a first grade teacher at an amazing public school in NC. My 22 students come to school from various backgrounds and experiences. They are eager and inquisitive, and their desire to learn keeps me on my toes! This is my 12th year teaching and I can't think of a better school or grade level to spend each and every day learning from my students!
My daily challenge is to find ways for all of my students to learn, and to have fun while learning. Through classroom observation and research, I know my students learn best by seeing, hearing, touching, and exploring. I enjoy the challenge and love watching my children's faces as they learn through exploration and experimentation. The materials requested will help all of my students explore and build their inquiry skills, scientific reasoning, and observation skills.
I am requesting a mesh Butterfly Sanctuary, life cycle poster and a Ladybug Kit. The Butterfly Sanctuary is simple to set up, easy to clean, great for viewing, and collapsible for easy storage. It allows students to work hands-on with living butterflies. From a culture cup that contains 33 larvae and food, each student transfers a larva and food to its own culture vessel—making an individual chamber to study and observe.
With the Ladybug Kit, the colorful, polka-dot beetles provide students with abundant opportunities to learn, observe and discuss these beneficial insects before students release them outdoors.
With your help, my students will receive butterflies and ladybugs for our science unit on life cycles. I know my students will learn so much about insects by watching the ladybugs and butterflies as they live in our classroom. Thank you!
