My seventh grade students need 26 books that transport them into the very pages they won't be able to stop turning, including titles from Stephenie Meyer, Beverly Cleary, and Walter Dean Myers.
Help my seventh graders by giving them the books they want to read! Our small 6-12 grade school is in its fifth year of existence. Located in a high-need community in NY, the school, rife with passionate educators is still young and needs help in building resources.
Many of my students love to read... only each time I tell them to go to the library to pick out a book I hear the same moans and groans, "But Ms. P, I don't want to read any of these books!" I try to argue but in the end I have no choice but to agree. Our library is cluttered with many books that the students have no interest in reading. Many students struggle in their literacy skills and think that reading has to be boring and so much work. I teach them that with the right book, it doesn't have to be that way. Teaching reading is so much fun when students can't put the book down and are just itching to discuss what happens next with their classmates and teachers.
My students are just itching for the kind of juicy books they can really sink their teeth into! They want to read about the drama, romance, mystery, and comedy that they can relate to. Seventh grade is an overwhelmingly social time of life. Books that mimic their real lives, or allow them to escape to another are beneficial in so many ways!
Think about that first time you picked up a book you couldn't put down. Don't you want to rest your head tonight knowing that by donating to this project, you have turned 60 seventh graders on to reading? Donate to this project and help teach students the amazing worlds that exist between the pages of a book!
