Help me differentiate! I teach 7th and 8th grade literacy in a severely under-resourced middle school in Brooklyn NY. More than 80% of my students qualify for free lunch. I work primarily with struggling learners and therefore address a variety of challenging learning styles, abilities and academic needs in the classroom. I work hard to provide my students with differentiated curriculum and multiple approaches to learning in each and every lesson. One way that I am able to meet their unique learning needs is to provide both written and oral instruction. However, my means of providing written instruction involves using a very old chalkboard to demonstrate reading and writing strategies and proves to be inadequate. Most students cannot see the chalk board or cannot read it from their seats. I am therefore asking that you help me to help them learn. I need a new "White board" to replace the old, dirty, smudged, obsolete chalk board to make my lessons visible to any student at all points in the room. This may seem like a small request, but will make an enormous amount of difference to students who are currently not able to fully "see" and understand all lessons. Please help me to eliminate all obstacles to learning. Please help me to provide the differentiated instruction that every child deserves. Please help me, help them.
