It would be so awesome for my developmentally delayed 3 and 4 year olds to have the learning experiences that technology can provide. They see so many other children on computers, they point and touch the monitor, wouldn't it be terrific if they touched a screen and something actually happened!
The children in this program total 10.
They have delays in the domains of fine/gross motor, adaptive, cognitive, communication and social skills. Like all children, they learn in their own special way. Whatever means we have to reach out to their learning styles is a huge boost to their academic success. I have been working with children with special needs for many years. I have watched technology evolve into the classroom and know it would be an invaluable tool to expose these busy hands and eager minds to the world of modern electronics. Please visualize the world around them, sometimes silent, sometimes confusing, somewhat overwhelming watching with wide eyes and wonder. Imagine the possibilities when given the tools to learn. They are amazing little people with bright futures and will someday be our teachers. Helping them help themselves is a gift that will last a lifetime.
My Project
This donation will open a world of possibilities to the minds of our youngest citizens. The games and teaching resources available number in the thousands. If we keep their hands busy and their minds fascinated we can open so many doors. Children learn through play, time spent with a touch screen computer is a hands on bonus. Learning is difficult for children especially those with delays. Making school a place where all children will learn should be a priority.
Children are the future.
Where else do they spend the majority of their day? Keeping them happy and safe is our duty, teaching them to survive is our job. Who else is going to help if we don't. It takes a village to raise a child.
