Our school is located in a small, rural community with 73% of our students being socioeconomically disadvantaged. I teach the middle school aged students with special needs. As the learning ability levels in my classroom change, I need to add materials to my classroom to meet their needs.
My students greatly benefit from hands-on learning activities.
The students in my classroom have various learning ability levels and require individualized instruction to meet their educational needs. This project will be used to create task boxes and materials to be used in small groups and independently. My students celebrate when they are able to independently complete learning activities.
My Project
These puzzles and hands-on learning materials will help my students with special needs express themselves and gain confidence through independent learning activities.
These materials will help my students become more confident in identification of letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and sight words.
My students also need the opportunity to reflect on their feelings through simple picture and writing journals. Students can control their own stressors more through the use of play dough and other hands-on manipulatives, such as puzzles. My students also need opportunities to work with pre-vocational skills such as counting money and using a cash register.
The items purchased through this grant will benefit my students for many years to come.
