Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As one of the oldest alternative high schools in the city, the student population here consists of students who are over age and under credited. The students are rededicated, and refocused, and have reinvested in themselves, but sometimes their hard work and effort seem to go unnoticed. Because we are an alternative school, the main goal is to get the students the class credits that are required for graduation therefore, we do not have alot of funds for our students outside of that.
More than half of the students here are passing all of their classes and a third of them are scheduled to graduate this June, and we want to be able to offer them something for their achievements, just like any other school would give to their deserving students.
Something as simple as a school or a senior "class of 2017" sweatshirt would give them some positive reinforcement and remind them of a time when they accomplished something. It can give them a feeling of pride in their school and in themselves.
My Project
We were lucky enough to have a generous donor fund the first project which allowed us to get heat press machines to start our school memorabilia business. Now we need some products to get started; the actual memorabilia. We need a class set of white hoodies so that we can create and fulfill our first order; attendance award hoodies with the schools brand new logo on them.
To create the design that goes onto the hoodies, students will have to combine their mathematical skills and artistic design skills to create a logo that will represent the school, and then be printed onto the hoodies.
The hoodies will then be given to those students that have shown the most pride in their school by coming every day.
