This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." - unknown.
I teach my students to believe in succeeding, to believe in themselves.
In my classroom, I strive to inspire daily. The power of education is limitless. My students are the future.
My school is located near a large military base, and although many students come to me from diverse backgrounds, they always have one thing in common, an eagerness to learn.
Approximately 547 children attend my school and identify mostly as Multiracial, Black, non-Hispanic, and Asian. 100% of the students here receive free breakfast and lunch. We are also a Title I school with at least 40% of a school's students coming from low-income families.
Our school is a well maintained school with a loving, caring administrator, as well as teachers and support staff who do everything within their power to see that the needs of the students are met.
My Project
My students need access to a selection of book variations to reinforce their Common Core skills. An important skill that our first grades must master involves comparing and contrasting the adventures of characters withing two text variations, while notating key details and events. What better way to master this skill, than through the use of classic children's stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella?
Obtaining the materials requested will enable my students to compare and contrast the adventures of the characters, an immensely important first grade skill.
My students already love to read and this is an excellent way to strengthen both their comprehension and fluency skills. Most of my students are independent readers who will read these texts during center work while my emerging or early readers will choral read with me in small groups. I look forward to bringing these exciting texts into my classroom.
