Ms. Fender from Charlotte NC is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Amazon Fire Kids Tablets for more differentiated opportunities to practice their literacy and math skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty area, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Every child in our school receives free or reduced lunch, and a large percentage of students are considered homeless. Despite this, my students are excited be part of a learning community where they feel safe and cared for.
Our classroom is an area where students are encouraged to work hard, collaborate with one another, and communicate clearly.
I encourage learning through exploration and value the intrinsic curiosity of my students.
My class has been so grateful to have access to additional technology this year! We recently added a "tablet" station to our phonics and guided reading rotations, and this has been an absolute hit! My scholars are so engaged practicing their literacy skills with fun letter sounds and sight word games they can play with these tablets, and this engagement has translated into amazing growth so far!
We are hoping to add a tablet to our station to increase our practice time and create more opportunities for individualized learning.
Right now, students need to share the tablets. I am hoping to have enough tablets so each student will be working independently - this way, I can have each scholar working on the skill they need to target, and they aren't losing any practice time by needing to alternate turns with a partner. Thank you for helping us continue to utilize technology in our learning this year!
