I am the librarian at a Title 1 school and many of my students are below grade level with their reading. It is a struggle to balance the needs of all learners. I am in need of more books for them to read. Any donation would be greatly appreciated! We have around 160 students who are at a 3rd grade reading level and below. Books around this level are needed to get them ready for high school
When you practice your reading, you are learning more than the story, you are learning vocabulary, word origin, and diction.
Our students check out and read for their English class and the more books our library has, the more our students will grow!
My Project
It can be challenging for a middle school student to find a book they want and like to read when their level is low. Picking and finding something is stressful. With these high interest/low leveled readers, these books will help out the approximately 160 students we have here that are on a 3rd grade reading level and below.
Low leveled readers support this group because the books have limited vocab, words, pictures, and story lines but yet do not seem "babyish" to this level of students.
The more our students read and check out the more practice they will have! Some of the titles deal with urban issue, minority characters, and of course sports fiction which appeal to boys.
