Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students and athletes that I work with have a wide range in backgrounds and goals. I work with young men and women in grades 9-12. In my PE classes, I have many first time lifters. It is an honor to lead in some students first weight training experience. I have other students that are experienced and help coach their peers. I have students who use weight training as a stress reliever and as a tool to change their body image. Other students use weight training as a tool to improve their social and physical health at the same time. In our Athletics program: I coach college football prospects, state qualifying weightlifters, and any other other athlete that wants to get stronger.
Our school, my students, and our athletes are embracing the dedication required for competitive weightlifting.
We need more bumper plates to feed that dedication.
My Project
Getting more bumper plates provides students in PE classes and athletes in our Weightlifting program with the essential equipment needed to succeed. More bumper plates will increase student engagement during classes, improve time management during practices, and decrease safety risks. Any project supported for our weightroom is a huge sign of support for the entire school. The weightroom is used for PE classes, JROTC, and Athletics.
Students involved in these programs are putting forth the effort to better themselves.
I want to ensure they have the necessary tools. My ultimate goal is to update the entire weight room one small project at a time to keep up with advancements in strength facility design.
